Discharge of SHPOs/ SOPOs
I am Julian Hunt. I am a barrister. Each year I represent many people who have Sexual Offence Prevention Orders or Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and now wish to have them removed, discharged or varied. I often work closely with experts in the field of risk to ascertain whether an application has merit or not. You can come direct to me rather than using a solicitor which many do. I have been a barrister since 2005.
The SOPO/ SHPO regime is a harsh regime and the Courts are required to balance the risk of harm to the public with the rehabilitation of the offender. A SOPO also affects notification requirements and whether convictions are required to be declared for non-DBS employment.
Let me see if I can help you. Do contact me for an initial conference. I am based in central London but undertake many cases entirely via phone or Zoom. Sadly, I am unable do not undertake legal aid work. My fees are fixed for this work.
I will be able to discuss matters such as the need for an independent expert report, the merits of the application and the timelines for the matter. I will also be able to discuss with you the drafting of any application and what evidence I require if your case has merit. I will always have a conference/case review initially with you and ask that any papers are sent to me initially.
I have a website at www.julianrhunt.co.uk which has a link to my professional and personal biography along with highlighting other areas of practice. I also have a business called Ellis and Sloane which this website address is linked to. I look forward to hearing from you directly by phone or email.
Contact me. I have done these cases all over the country and can help.

Germaine Wilson2022-08-10I was nervous, I was scared, I was facing a 6 month ban due to totting. I'd spoken with some large solicitor firms but as part of my research I found out that barristers could be approached directly so I went on the search for some. I found 2, the first was not encouraging but then I found Julian. He was calm, thorough and direct. He reviewed every minute detail of my case and advised although we didn't have a strong case, we did have a case for Exceptional Hardship. The journey began! He was in regular contact, examining every reference he asked me to acquire. He arrived early to court, he sat in on other cases to get a feel for the magistrates, he briefed me thoroughly on the approach and it worked perfectly in the main event as it did in practice. He was brilliant, so relaxed, so confident that I'd be shown leniency, because of this I too was relaxed. When we'd finished the prosecutor only had one paltry question. We'd done our bit, it was now in their hands. They deliberated for about 10 minutes before returning to accept our Exceptional Hardship plea. I was overjoyed however Julian was calm, he knows this field inside and out, he knew how to get my point across quickly and effectively. He smashed it. Much as I hope he never has to represent me again, I couldn't recommend him enough and if I do ever find myself (heaven forbid) in a case that warrants a barrister I know who I'll be calling. Thank you Julian, I really appreciate your help and winning this case for me.Taha Azizi2022-03-18I found Julian online after my wife was taken to court for not responding to a traffic offence notice (which we had not received). I soon found out that the law presumes you have received a notice. Julian arranged to meet with us to discuss our case. He chased up a witness we had introduced to gather evidence. On the hearing date, Julian eloquently put our case across and I think he was instrumental in arriving at a decision in our favour. Even if the decision had not been in our favour, I would have still recommended Julian as he really does his best and clearly knows what he is doing.Danny Mackin2022-03-11After 4 years of council tax pain that accumulated 20k+ of council tax bills due to double charges for our property being empty for more than 12 months. We finally found Julian who quickly turned this situation around for us and successfully had the property deleted from the council tax listings due to the fact that we could show the property was un-inhabitable. Thanks Julian we are so grateful ! what a headache this has been for over 4 years, with your help, common sense and fairness has prevailed ! :0) Sending you lots of hugs Dan & Vic xKaren Ryan2022-03-01Julian has provided an excellent service recently to my son, who had no experience of Court. Julian took me through everything step by step and as a result I was prepared and ready. The case went in my favour a result that wouldn't have happened if I had tried to do it myself. I recommend Julian whole heartedly.Dominic D Chevidan2021-05-26Highly reliable service, His knowledge on Law is outstanding. Julian is highly dedicated to achieve best outcome for the client. I highly recommend his services.Farid Butt2021-05-18I would recommend Mr. Julian Hunt for representation at the Magistrates’ Court to everyone who are encountering the similar situation. I instructed him under direct access scheme in relation to a traffic offence that is called Section 172 matter for which he defended the position successfully through his excellent written and oral representation at the Court. Because of his efforts and hard-work, the Court dismissed the prosecution charge. I am very grateful for the service he provided to defend the case.
Fees
Although each case is different the typical case will be £350 plus VAT for the case review and conference and then if we go forward further fees for the remainder of the legal work at and including the Crown Court (not including the rare instance of any appeal to the Court of Appeal). I now have use of Klarna so am able to accept payment in three monthly stages for work post the case review.
